Throughout human development and throughout human history, suffering has become commonplace for every human being. We are used to it. We suffer from everything: an unfulfilled desire, an unmet need, a word that hurts our pride, envy, jealousy, stupidity, possessiveness, inferiority complexes, loss of a loved one, break-ups, loss of a child or parents, aggression, terrible situations, shocking events, war, and so on and so forth. We can look at suffering as a lesson of life and then suffering puts us in the position of being our own healer or we can look at suffering as a trauma and live as a victim. When we understand that suffering is self-induced then we can look objectively at the life we live. Suffering carries within itself a sense of what we have to learn.
